What you are renting
A hyperbaric chamber pressurizes the environment around the whole body above normal atmospheric pressure. FDA regulates these chambers as Class II medical devices. Renting changes who owns the equipment. It does not change what the equipment is or the care it needs.
That is why the questions to ask a rental provider are largely the same questions you would ask before buying.
What to verify with any rental provider
- Clearance for the specific device. Ask for the model's FDA 510(k) clearance and confirm it. See what FDA clearance means.
- Prescription handling. Ask how the provider handles the prescription requirement.
- Service and cleaning history. A rental unit has been used before. Ask when it was last inspected and serviced, and by whom.
- Instructions and training. You should receive the manufacturer's instructions for use and be shown how to operate the chamber correctly.
- Support during the rental. Find out who you call if something needs attention, and who is responsible for maintenance.
- That the chamber is genuine. See how to confirm a genuine OxyHealth chamber.
Renting compared with owning
The right choice follows from how the chamber will be used, and that starts with your clinician. A qualified clinician determines whether hyperbaric therapy is appropriate and sets the protocol, including how long it runs.
- Renting can suit a defined period of use, or someone who wants experience with a chamber before committing to one.
- Owning can suit ongoing use, households or practices with more than one user, and anyone who wants the chamber set up permanently. OxyHealth offers financing for purchases.
Either way, plan the space first. The room size and setup guide lists the dimensions and power requirements for each OxyHealth model.
Safety applies to rentals too
Follow the chamber's instructions for use every session, including the manufacturer's prohibited-item list and guidance on ignition sources and electronic devices. Do not improvise exceptions. The OxyHealth safety page covers the essentials.
